Bean Bag Toss

Bean Bag Toss

Cornhole10 Bean Bag Toss Game

What the heck is it???

It's an addictively fun game played throughout the Midwest, but is quickly becoming a national phenomenon. It's played similarly to horseshoes but is much safer. Opposing teams of one to two players toss corn-filled bags at slanted boards placed 30 feet apart. One point is achieved by landing a bag on the board and three points for a bag that goes through the hole.

The first team to twenty-one wins! Bean bag toss or cornhole is similar to horseshoes except you use wooden boxes called cornhole platforms and corn bags instead of horseshoes and metal stakes. Contestants take turns pitching their corn bags at the cornhole platform until a contestant reaches the score of 21 points. A corn bag in the hole scores 3 points, while one on the platform scores 1 point. (Instead of corn bags, common practice is to use bean bags)

Bean Bag Toss Games – A Great Way to Spend the Weekend

Over the years, our children have become less active, and we all tend to spend a little too much time in front of the television or our computers. If you can remember back to the time when you were younger and played outside all day, you might remember a little thing called bean bag toss games. These were commonly found on almost any playground, in everyone’s back yard, and especially at campgrounds.

For those of you that are a little younger and don’t know what bean bag toss games are, you might be surprised at how fun this simple activity can be. The general purpose of the game is to get a bag (that is filled with beans or a similar substance) through a small hole on a board. The trick is that you have to do it from a distance, so it is actually quite hard.

What makes bean bag toss games so much fun is that it doesn’t really take a lot of athleticism, so the kids can compete against the adults and the girls against the boys. There is really no age or gender that is universally better at this game, and you may find out that the “athlete” in the family is no good at it at all!

How Is It Played?

The way in which this game is played really varies from region to region and from family to family. Some people play it on a point system, whereby the smaller holes on the board give you more points. If you are playing on a flat board, rather than one that is slanted, you may get points for just getting close to the hole.

Some people like to play this game up close (within six feet or so), while others really enjoy the challenge of playing from a further distance. You can also choose to use a certain method of throwing, or to mix up the challenge a little bit more, you can throw with your non-dominant hand. That can really mix up the game!

Where Can You Get Bean Bag Toss Games?

Because this is a certain type of old-fashioned fun that you just don’t see that much anymore, you won’t generally find it in any old toy store or regular sporting goods store, and that is why more and more people are either building their own (which can be pretty time-consuming) or buying their set online. You can buy a variety of bean bag toss games on the Internet now that will entice both young and old alike.

When you are looking for bean bag toss games, you will often find some that have two sides to them, so you can play at least two different types of games. Also, try to find games that have at least six to eight bags so that you aren’t constantly walking back and forth to the board. This is a great way for young and old to spend time together in a competitive but fun fashion.

Are Cornhole Board Games Still in Fashion?

If you are from the Midwest, then you may know about these games as cornhole board games, but in other areas of the country, they are often known as bean bag games. These are the simple games we played as youngsters whereby a small bag of beans was thrown through a hole in a piece of wood. This all sounds simple enough, but believe it or not, people are still playing this and are constantly improving on the game itself.

Cornhole board games are usually played in one of two ways – either by throwing a bag through a board that is on a slant or completely vertical, or by throwing a bag at a board that is horizontal and slippery. These games are played in many different ways, some with scoring and some without, from a distance or more close up for the little kids. The truth is that there is an endless way of playing cornhole board games and every family has their own set of rules.

So if you are planning a picnic or a family outing, then it might be worth your while to check out the wide variety of cornhole board games that are now available online. Of course, if you have a piece of plywood, a saw, and a couple of old socks full of beans, you can make your own set, but the new games that are available are a lot of fun and provide you with more options as to how to play the game.

One way of playing is to play for points. Most of the boards that you buy online will provide you with a set of rules, but you can certainly make up your own. Usually, the smaller the hole on the board, the more points you will get, and you can decide just how high you would like to play. Some people prefer to have contestants alternate turns, while other people like to have one player throw all six or eight bags and attain a score that everyone else has to beat. This is fun because the score can be maintained over several vacations with everyone always trying to beat it.

One of the unique features of any cornhole board games is that they are as easy to play for the little kids as they are for the older people. Even though the games can get very competitive, they don’t have to be, and it is perfectly fine for children to compete against adults. This is one game where the adults won’t always win, nor will the most athletic children always win. There is a certain measure of chance to the game and that is what makes it fun.

Whether you decide to build your own cornhole or bean bag set or you buy one online, you will most likely find that this is one toy that everyone always wants to bring on vacation and that will provide the entire family with hours of fun for years on end.
