The chess set wood explained:
Ebony wood defined: Species of ebony are from India, western Africa and Indonesia and is prized for its luxuriant, multi-colored wood grain.
Maple wood defined: Maple is a creamy white hardwood that sometimes has a reddish tinge. One of the hardest wood species, it can take a beating and look great for years.
Why double queens?
To be used for pawn promotion which is a chess rule that requires if your pawn reaches its eighth rank (the pawn reaching the other side of the chess board) it must be immediately replaced by the player's choice of a queen, knight, rook, or bishop of the same color (in this case a queen) .
The new piece replaces the pawn on the same square, as part of the same move.
