A quick helpful guide for the complete noob when it comes to VR
There are so many different choices!
What makes one better than another?
As with all things tech there is a new system coming out all the time trying to pry money from your wallet!
First things first is VR as badass as everyone says it is?
Absolutely and then some!
If possible before you invest in a system see if you have a friend or a friend of a friend that has a system you can try.
Do I need to have a PC that is VR compatible?
Yes you do and sorry Mac uses your options are limited… at the moment.
Again there are several options so do your due diligence and decide what is best for you and your budget.
Is it like an Xbox? Short answer… no.
Will Virtual Reality rot my brain and make me sick to my stomach?
If you are working with a cheap system there is a chance you may experience motion sickness.
This may be the result of frame flickering, if you have the option of forcing the frame rates you may be able to overcome that.
Do I need a room the size of a gymnasium to appreciate VR?
Not really most games are designed to be played sitting down however there are situations where more room is better.
So if you don’t want to destroy your mother’s favorite lamp you may want to plan ahead and make the space.
If you are worried about doing a face plant into a wall no worries there are systems that detect the room around you.
As you move in virtual space, the system will display a virtual wall where the real wall is located so you can avoid a direct assault with a wall.
Does VR have a multiplayer option?
Yes, there are a number of multiplayer games in the works.
Some games will allow you to play with two people in the same room while others will work like traditional multiple games.
Will the prices come down like other electronics?
They will for older units but like all other electronics as the tech gets better the price gets higher.
If you want to experience VR the best thing to do is stay within your budget do some homework and pull the trigger.
If you are waiting for the next best thing you may be waiting a while!
